{the crew} introducing…jenny dixon!
I hope you’ve been enjoying getting to know the new members of the Piggy Bank Parties Crew. The more I read about them and look at their photos…the more excited I get about the future of Oink! A few months back when we were discussing adding new members to our team, one person came to mind immediately.
Introducing Jenny Dixon of Crossing the Bugger-Dixon Line…
I have been a HuGe fan of Jenny’s for a long time now. I love reading her blog and often find myself drooling over her photos, writing down her recipes and overwhelmed by her creativity and penny pinching secrets. Her parties, tutorials and recipes have been featured on party blogs and online magazines so you can imagine how thrilled we were when Jenny accepted our invitation to join the Crew. The more I get to know Jenny…the more I love and respect her! She is genuine, kind, encouraging and one of the most wonderful ladies I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. Jenny shared with us a little bit of her background…
“I am Jenny Dixon of Crossing the Bugger-Dixon Line. I am an Etsy loving, Pinterest pinning, Boston native who now lives in the country. I prefer all things to be homemade except when it involves me cooking in the kitchen. I have a masters in Counselor Education and worked as a college recruitment coordinator before having children. I am now a stay at home mom and the official party planner of two bugger boys, ages 3 and 5. I believe in celebrating all big and small special moments in life and throw LOTS of parties. With each party, I put myself on a budget and get resourceful by upcycling and reusing party goods. I strive to share simple, practical and budget friendly ideas that will keep you celebrating well and often!”
Do you do this as a full- or part-time job or is it just for fun? Currently, I only have two little clients named Jack and Noah. Just like their mommy, they love a good party!
How did you get started? Most children dream about being doctors and lawyers. I dreamed of working for Hallmark. Yes you can ask my mom, I used to create cards and sign them with a “Jen-Mark” logo. Party planning and crafting provide a necessary creative outlet for me. I created my blog as a place to share ideas. The blog has blossomed into so many wonderful opportunities and new friendships.
What is your favorite taste (salty, sweet, sour, tangy, etc.)? Sweet, extra sweet, and ultra rich tooth ache sweet.
Do you prefer cupcakes, cake or cookies at a birthday party? I am partial to cupcakes. They are easy to distribute and there are a million ways to decorate them. The truth? I don’t trust myself with a sharp knife and beautiful cake.
What is your favorite decoration (streamers, balloons, poms, etc.)? Garlands and buntings are my favorite party decorations. So simple, yet make such a statement.
What is your favorite color combination? Navy and light blue.
What are your 3 favorite penny pinching tips? Oh, I have so many but I will save some for later.
- The first tip is to use everyday items in unexpected ways at your parties. Look around your house (and your friends’ houses) and see what could be used in a new way. For example, shower curtains make great backdrops, tablecloths or temporary curtains. I have also been known to flip over my sons’ toy bins and use them as dessert stands.
- The second tip is to pick your party theme EARLY. The earlier the better. Time gives you the opportunity to hunt down good deals in the clearance and seasonal sections.
- The third tip is to find one thing to splurge on and make the rest. I bake my own cupcakes, but I buy fondant cake toppers to give them a professional look.
Why did you want to join the Piggy Bank Parties Crew on Oink!? I was thrilled when Do and J invited me to join the Piggy Bank Parties Crew. They are an incredibly talented duo with fresh, fun and unique designs. Do and J consistently promote and encourage the creative efforts of others in the party business. Most importantly, I love their commitment to throwing fabulous, yet affordale parties.
Isn’t she amazing and beyond sweet? Now that you know her a lil’ better, Jenny also shared FIVE favorite things that she has created…
