Put away your credit cards ‘cuz it’s…

A few weeks ago The Purple Pug posted a photo of a paper chain she had created for her kiddos. The paper chain represented the number of days until her family left for vacation. Her photo brought back a flood of memories from my childhood. Memories of creating those timeless paper chains out of construction paper and school glue.

My mom was a third grade teacher and she was always coming up with fun arts-n-crafts activities for her classroom. My sisters and I were usually her guinea pigs…and willing volunteers! Instead of party décor though, our paper chains were more often created as a countdown to Christmas and birthdays.

This year I thought it would be fun to start a new tradition and countdown to Valentine’s Day!

To help with your countdown, I created a {f-REE} Create-Your-Own Valentine’s Day Countdown for you!

{break for a Happy Dance!}

The paper chains come in two color combinations—Red, Pink and White or Red, Turquoise and White—and the downloads include a page of solid colored strips. This way you can add links to the top of the chain before you hang it to accommodate lil’ people!

If you’re new to paper chain crafting, there is a great tutorial on wikiHow here. It’s a fun craft to do with your kiddos and can be used to create excitement for lots of different occasions other than Valentine’s Day—birthdays, vacations, the end or beginning of school or a visit from grandparents!

You can download the Red, Pink and White countdown here.

Or download the Red, Turquoise and White countdown here.

 I hope you’re inspired to make a lil’ chain for the ones you love!
