My obsession with yarn continues.Β It’s a good obsession though. Yarn is economical, reusable and comes in so many colors and textures. The perfect tool for party decorations. Today’s tutorial is so easy that you can create it while relaxing in front of the TV.

Piggy Bank Parties DIY Fiesta Yarn Garland - Supplies

1. Cut 36″ (aka 1 yard) lengths of yarn. A 4.5 foot garland required 312 pieces of yarn.

CUTTING TIP: If you are using more than one color, gather all of your colors and cut all at the same time.

Want a shorter or longer garland? Cut the lengths shorter or longer and cut more or less of them. The possibilities are endless!

2. Fold the yarn in half and tie a knot near the fold to create a loop.

You can also tie the yarn directly on the twine or ribbon at this point. I wanted to be able to remix and reuse the garland to match other party themes and color schemes which is the reason I tied it this way.

3. Thread the yarn loops onto your twine or string.

I used a plastic yarn needle, but you can use a paper clip or nothing since the loops are easy to thread.

For Cinco de Mayo, I decided to mix the colors up so I strung them in no particular order.

4. Hang your garland. Ta-Da!

To keep it fun, festive and whimsical, I didn’t trim the ends, but you can if you’d like a cleaner look.

COST: $20.27

I used 8 colors of yarn ($2.39 per skein plus tax) and still have TONS of yarn leftover for other projects.

I hope you’re inspired to decorate with yarn. I’ll be sharing ways to remix and reuse this same garland for different themes and color schemes soon!
